One, Thomas de Ingelby appears in the “Feet of Fines for Yorkshire” (1280).

I have been able to get my paternal line back to John Ingleby 1678-1729…and in an effort to get back further, prevailed upon my cousin Mark Ingleby to do a Y chromosome DNA test through FamilyTreeDNA.

Lo and behold, we have some progress…sort of. What we discovered was a common ancestor in the 1600s with the Ingledew and Ingledue lines (they hail from Seamer, a village near Scarborough)…and a common ancestor in the 1400s with the McAuleys of S Uist.

What is needed to push back further are some more male Ingleby testers to try to push back further and triangulate the common ancestor.

I was wondering if you might be willing to encourage a an Ingleby male from the Grewelthorpe line to take a Y test the FamilyTreeDNA.com and take a look at the McAuleys of S Uist project, which is where the discovery was made. Even the Y37 would be most useful to see if there is a common male ancestor. As a side note, there’s also a Nidderdale project that any male with Nidderdale roots can join.

Comment from Jasmine Marshall. Although trying to trace my Barker ancestery, I have been sent the following information from a collaborative member on the site I use because we do have an Ingleby in the family.
I am informed that there was a John Ingleby born 1809 in Kirkby Malzeard who married an Alice ? and who had the following children betwen 1837 – 1849.
Hannah 1837, Harriet 1841, Annas 1842, Willis 1845, Alice 1847 and Eliza 1849.
I am not sure if this will assist anyone but you never know. However, if there is anyone out there who can help me with my Barker/Cundall connections (Dallowgill, Kirkby Malzeard,Grewelthorpe, Knott Farm)and surrounding area, I would be very grateful to hear from them.

Report of inquest in Knaresborough Post.
An inquest was held at the Royal Oak Inn Grewelthorpe. on the body of Robert Ingleby of Dallowgill, Farmer aged 65years. It appeared that on the previous day the deceased had left his house in good health to go to Middleham Moor Fair. He started from Dallowgill in a wagonette with 13 other persons. On arriving near Grewelthorpe the deceased was taken suddenly ill. and died before any help could be obtained.
Verdict. died of disease of the heart.

WILLIAM HESLINGTON INGLEBY. born 4 September 1851 Sawley died 21 February at Hothfield House Carlton Rd Skipton, son of James INGLEBY 1814-1893 and Elizabeth ROBINSON b. 1816 Winsley.
He married in 1873 Eliza Jane UMPLEBY born 31 July 1854, Sawley, she died 13 January 1913, at Throstle Nest Farm, Gargrave. (They were both buried at St Andrews PC, Gargrave) Eliza’s parents were John UMPLEBY, 1825-1908 and Jane PARNABY, 1834-1934, they had three additional children: John William b. 1856, George b. 1863 Sawley & Emily Laura abt 1869 d. 30 April 1888 Eavestone. William was a farmer, from Castiles Farm he moved to Northcote Farm, Kilnsey, farmed at Throstle Nest. then retired to Hothfield House Skipton between 1913-1920.[Thanks to B.Sharples for this information].
