Mary Emma’s father was a coachbuilder at Masham. Robert was a farmer and they lived at Woodhouse Farm, Winksley. Thanks Ann Simpson

ALBERT BURTON Born 1869 Pateley Bridge. Enlisted in West Yks Regt in 1890. He was 5ft 5”. Dark brown hair, sallow complexion, hazel eyes. 2 large scars on forearm.Served in East Indies, West Africa, Gibraltar, & South Africa. He was awarded the Ashanti Star in 1896. The Ashanti Star was created in 1896 for the members of the expedition against the Ashanti King Prempeh, in the 4th Anglo-Ashanti War.
. He also had the South African Star & 2 good conduct medals. He was Discharged in 1902. He had a step brother Charles Christopher Burton He married May Angela Watson in 1900.

Elizabeth Burton born circa 1837 in Grewelthorpe married Wiiliam ATKINSON on 14th May 1870 in the Parish Church at Ripon. She was the daughter of a Henry Burton, shoemaker, looking at census records I feel this is the daughter of Henry BURNET[sic] born abt 1804 in Grewelthorpe and Mary Ascough born abt 1808 in Grewelthorpe. The death printout of Elizabeth Atkinson that I obtained from NZ confirmed the lady who died there as the daughter of a Henry BURTON, and that she was born in England.
